Rose-Marie Marais and Hayley Davison from Pam Golding Properties in Hermanus combined their forces as chefs to win a Clover competition run by Women and Home by entering their special recipes for a two course meal with cheese as the main ingredient.
The nifty cooks join Pam Nel who won the same competition run by Food and Home magazine and thereby making Hermanus the proud home of some very creative ladies.
Marais said the winning recipes, cob bread filled with cheese, minestrone soup and a croissant and mascarpone pudding are destined for the winter menu of her book club.
“A few years ago, a few like-minded, book loving ladies got together and we formed The Beautiful, Brilliant Book Club,” says Marais. “We are from all walks of life and with varying interests. Among our ranks are a farmer, a lawyer, an estate agent interior designer and artist but most of all we ae wives, mothers and grandmothers.”
These ladies meet once a month at one of the members' houses. They catch up on all their doings during these meetings, discuss books, share friendship and fellowship and eat a wholesome meal while enjoying the warmth and caring of one another. Marais said that she and her personal assistant Davison had this book club in mind when they designed their cheesy recipes.
While Davison (who is pregnant) and her husband will enjoy a well-deserved weekend break at Franschoek, complete with a meal at one of South Africa's top restaurants and free entry to the cheese festival at Dieu Donné, Marais will give the Kenwood Titanium Major food processor that is part of the prize to her daughter while keeping the R6 000 gift voucher from French cookware company Le Creuset for herself.
The article on their win as well as some lovely photographs taken during a cooking demonstration at Marais' home will appear in the May edition of Women and Home.
